Sour corn increases income

On August 22, more than ten housewives were busy making sour corn in the family workshop of Wang Shuying, a villager from Wangcheng Village, Huayuan Town.

Sour corn is a local specialty of the Miao people in Xiangxi, and is very popular in the market, with a selling price of over 10 yuan per kg. So, to extend the industrial chain, enhance the added value of the local specialty, and cultivate brands, villagers are encouraged to make sour corn to increase income.  Wang Shuying said excitedly that her corn has ushered in a bumper harvest with good weather this year. She will make 250 kg of sour corn and plans to sell for 3,000 yuan.

This year, Wangcheng Village played a leading role in developing the “courtyard economy”, and helped local villagers increase income through specialties.
The village secretary said: “We have a consumer market of 100,000 people. Housewives are organized to make sour corn to earn money. This can help villagers increase income by 1,000 yuan.”
